THE CHALLENGE

In 2024 Ede's signed up to the Race to Zero Pledge via the SME Climate Hub. We committed to halving our absolute carbon emissions by 2030 from a 2023 baseline, and to be net zero by 2050.

Our fleet of heavy goods vehicles, all powered by diesel, represented the largest contributor to our carbon footprint. With business growth driving the need for fleet expansion, it became essential to reduce emissions on a per-vehicle basis, decoupling emissions from business growth ..

EDE'S APPROACH

To address emissions immediately, we transitioned our existing diesel fleet to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), a sustainable drop-in fuel that requires no vehicle modifications. This allowed for a swift reduction in carbon emissions without disrupting operations."Being in the lucky position to have our own filling station has made the transition to HVO much easier. FUTURE PLANS

• Further optimise routing to minimise mileage.
• Electrify fleet as electric HGV technology improves.
• Keep driver training current to maintain efficient driving behaviours.
• Increase onsite renewable energy to power fleet.

RESULTS

• Since go-live at the end of November 2024, through to March 2025 we achieved:93% reduction in total scope 1 and 2carbon emisions
• No negative impact on operations
• Like for like seamless replacement
